Recraft V4.1 is the current model from Recraft, the London design-AI company founded by Anna Veronika Dorogush, released on 14 May 2026 as a faster, cheaper refinement of February's V4. It is built for design work rather than photos: you can hand it brand colours and a background colour, and the vector variant outputs real editable SVG. On fal the raster model is $0.035 per image.

Anvisha's take
Recraft is the only model here that thinks like a designer, and V4.1 shows it. The self-portrait came back as a mascot sheet with three poses and a five-swatch palette, hex codes and all; the poster is the most typographically adventurous of the batch; the logo is a real mark with a wordmark. It is also the model that put the pencil in the glass instead of across it, and there is no edit endpoint on fal. For brand and layout work at 3.5 cents it is hard to argue with.

Is Recraft V4.1 free?
Recraft's own app has a free plan with a daily credit allowance, but images made on it are owned by Recraft, shown publicly in the community gallery and not licensed for commercial use. Paid plans grant full ownership. The API has no free tier.

- •The most designed poster on the site: a psychedelic display face, all three lines correct, two colours, no clip art. Recraft's design bias is real. See the text in an image picture.
- •A usable logo: a chain-link-and-spoke mark, a geometric wordmark, black on white, nothing else. Most models draw a picture of a logo; this drew one. See the logo mark picture.
- •Four headings, exact wording, thin icons, nothing invented, but it numbered the steps twice ('1' and '1. Rinse') and set them small. Minimal to a fault. See the infographic with steps picture.
- •The one clear miss: the pencil is in the glass, not across the rim. Book left, apple right and three or four ice cubes were fine. See the hard composition picture.
- •No image-to-image endpoint for V4.1 on fal, so the edit prompt could not be run. Recraft's own app has editing tools; V3 on fal has image-to-image. See the edit an existing image picture.
- •The self-portrait mascot sheet includes a palette with hex codes and a tiny R monogram. The hex codes are invented but internally consistent, which is more than most models manage with numbers.
- •Fast: 8 to 16 seconds per picture, median 11.
- •Sizes are Recraft's own presets: 896 by 1216 at 3:4 and 1536 by 768 at 21:9 rather than the pixel sizes asked for.

What Recraft V4.1 will not draw
Recraft's terms bar content that exploits children, non-consensual intimate imagery or deepfakes of real individuals, content that falsely depicts a real person in a political context, material that promotes terrorism or violence against protected groups, and removing AI-disclosure watermarks or metadata. Two rules matter for design work: images made on the free plan are owned by Recraft, public in the community gallery and not licensed for commercial use, and generated assets may not be used to train AI models.
