Lorem Ipsum Generator
Pick how much placeholder text you need — by paragraph, sentence, or word — and copy it out as plain text or ready-made HTML paragraphs. Toggle the classic “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet…” opener on or off, and hit Regenerate for a fresh variation with the same settings.

Placeholder text exists to be ignored. Real English pulls a reviewer’s attention to the words — people critique the copy instead of the layout — while lorem ipsum reads as texture: it has the letter frequency, word-length distribution, and punctuation rhythm of natural language without any meaning to snag on. The text itself is scrambled Cicero (“De finibus bonorum et malorum”, 45 BC), in continuous use as printer’s filler since dummy type in the 1500s and standard in digital typesetting since Letraset sheets in the 1960s.
Choosing units, and what the toggles change
Paragraphs (4–7 sentences each) suit page and article mockups; sentences suit cards, captions, and form help text; words suit buttons, labels, and testing truncation at exact lengths. The classic-opener toggle controls whether output begins with the famous first line — recognizable filler is a feature when you want stakeholders to instantly read “this is placeholder”, and worth disabling when the repetition looks canned across many blocks. The HTML toggle wraps each paragraph in <p> tags for pasting into templates, CMS source views, or email HTML.
One caution: remember to replace it
Shipped lorem ipsum is a small genre of famous embarrassment — it has appeared in live banking sites, government documents, and at least one national party manifesto. Because this generator’s vocabulary is pure pseudo-Latin, a search for “lorem” or “ipsum” across your project before launch reliably catches every leftover block. Placeholder that must survive review by non-designers is sometimes better served by draft copy in plain English.
Frequently asked questions
Does lorem ipsum mean anything?
Not anymore. It descends from a real Cicero passage about the ethics of pain and pleasure, but the traditional filler scrambles, truncates, and misspells it (the opening “lorem” is a clipped “dolorem”), so the result is deliberately untranslatable.
Why does the output change every time I click Regenerate?
Sentences are assembled randomly from the traditional vocabulary with natural sentence lengths, so each generation is a fresh variation. Your settings stay fixed; only the word order redraws.
What does the HTML option produce?
Each paragraph wrapped in <p>…</p>, one per line, with no styling attributes — ready to paste into a template or CMS source view. In sentence and word modes the output is a single paragraph, so you get one <p> block.
How many words is a typical paragraph here?
Paragraphs run 4–7 sentences of 6–15 words each, so roughly 40–90 words — similar density to web body copy. If you need an exact word count for truncation testing, switch the unit to words.
