Grok Imagine Pro

Grok Imagine Pro is the higher-fidelity tier of xAI's image models, sold on the xAI API as grok-imagine-image-quality and on fal under the quality endpoint. It takes the same prompts, shapes and reference images as Grok Imagine 2.0 and costs a cent more per image at 1K. xAI does not publish what changes under the hood, so the samples below are the comparison.

Grok Imagine Pro drawing itself as cinematic film still, generated by us.
What we asked for

A self-portrait of Grok Imagine Pro, xAI's premium image model, as a cinematic film still: a lone figure in a long coat standing on a desert salt flat at golden hour, an enormous glowing X hovering in the sky behind them, anamorphic lens flare, 2.39:1 letterbox feel, moody colour grade.

Anvisha's take

Pro is the fastest model on this site, five to eight seconds a picture, and on our prompts it was not obviously better than Grok Imagine 2.0 at medium quality. The poster and infographic text came out right, the market scene is good, and the edit changed the dripper's shape the way 2.0's did. Where 2.0 nailed the hard composition, Pro put six ice cubes in the glass. I would pick it for speed and treat the 'Pro' as a label rather than a promise.

Grok Imagine Pro real output: the same 12 prompts every model gets

Is Grok Imagine Pro free?

Grok Imagine is a paid feature of X. Since March 2026 image generation has been gated to X Premium, Premium+ and SuperGrok subscribers, with free accounts getting intermittent, small allowances that xAI adjusts without notice. The API has no free tier.

  • X app and grok.com: Premium, Premium+ and SuperGrok subscribers generate from a shared usage pool; free accounts have had access switched on and off through 2026 with a handful of images a day when it is on.
  • xAI API: pay per image, no free tier. Flat per-image pricing regardless of prompt length.
  • fal, Artlist and other hosts: pay per image; a request xAI refuses on policy grounds is still charged.

What we noticed running Grok Imagine Pro

  • It is the quickest model here. All twelve pictures came back in 5 to 8 seconds, against a median of a minute for Grok Imagine 2.0 on the same day.
  • Placement right, count wrong: pencil across the rim, book left, apple right, but six ice cubes rather than three. It also gave the book a title and a library label nobody asked for. See the hard composition picture.
  • It elaborates. The four headings are exact and in order, each with a paragraph of invented instructions, plus a footer with brewing temperatures the prompt never mentioned. See the infographic with steps picture.
  • Edits are re-draws. The recolour and brass handle arrived, on a dripper with a spout and a drain hole the original never had. See the edit an existing image picture.
  • Text exact; the illustration under it is an abstract collage rather than the venue, which is a defensible reading of 'risograph'. See the text in an image picture.
  • Draws its own maker's logo: the self-portrait carries a small xAI mark in the corner.
  • Sizes follow xAI's shape list: 1024 by 1024 at square, 864 by 1152 at 3:4, 1408 by 704 for the wide banner (xAI's nearest shape to 21:9 is 2:1).

What Grok Imagine Pro will not draw

xAI's acceptable use policy applies through every host, and fal notes that a request refused on those terms is still charged. In practice the boundaries are the usual ones for a model with a permissive reputation: no sexual or intimate depictions of real people, no sexual, violent or harmful depictions of minors, no election disinformation, no deceptive real-person imagery without disclosure, no impersonation. xAI says generated media goes through content policy review and is not used for training.

$0.05 per image on the xAI API and on fal at 1K, and $0.07 at 2K on fal, read on 9 September 2026.

How this page is made

Prices, limits and settings are read from the linked vendor and host pages on the dates shown. Every picture was generated by us through fal with the request shown under it, and the original files are kept unedited. A generation that failed is shown as a failure. Model and vendor names are used to identify the products; no vendor imagery appears on this page.
